This is the landmark around Newtownards in County Down Northern Ireland, called Scrabo Tower. It is situated on Scrabo Hill, some 350 feet above sea level.
It was built (but never finished) in 1857 as a memorial to the 3rd Marquis of Londonderry by his tenants.
The tower holds a lot of history itself and was lived in until 1966. There was no running water supply and an electrical supply was only fitted years after itโs last inhabitants left.
A great vantage point for those who tackle a sometimes very steep walk to and in the tower.
On a clear day it is possible to see the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland and Mount Snowden in Wales, as well as the Isle of Man.

Hi and thanks for your interest! Iโm Neil and I started Blue Lens Photography UK, photography by Neil R Finlay, back in 2016 when I had been suffering from PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. After being unable to continue in my employment, I picked up a camera again and returned to my first love of Natural History.
