Artist's Description

Atlantic Puffin In Flight.
The adorable Puffin mid flight. This isn’t the best photograph you’ll ever see, but as I was on a small boat with a big lens on the camera at the time, I’m content with it for now. A bigger lens might have resulted in a bigger image for you, but given all the rolling in the boat and the extra weight a bigger lens would mean, there might not have been any image at all!
Anyway, these beautiful creatures are native to the Atlantic Ocean and spend their winters there, even moulting their plumage at sea.
In the spring or nesting season, they return to a small number of areas on coastlines in the Atlantic area, including here in Northern Ireland. (The largest local population are normally found on Rathlin Island {just off the Ballycastle coast in Co. Antrim})
I photographed this puffin just off the Donaghadee (Co.Down) coastline at the Copeland Islands, where they can be found each spring.

Hi and thanks for your interest! I’m Neil and I started Blue Lens Photography UK, photography by Neil R Finlay, back in 2016 when I had been suffering from PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. After being unable to continue in my employment, I picked up a camera again and returned to my first love of Natural History.
